How to be Confident

Have you ever experienced sitting in front of scary HR people and , heck, Techy people that you asked yourself what the heck am I doing here, maybe I should go.

One of the things I fear most during job hunting is the interview part where you get to meet and talk with those psycho HR people. Well, it’s difficult for me because it’s one of my weaknesses. But how do I overcome it.

Here’s a list of some things I usually do and think whenever I’m out for an interview

Relax. Well, there are somethings you need to do to feel relaxed. Think of the interview as nothing. You go out there and talk to them as if there’s nothing to worry. Remember, you have nothing to lose everytime you sell yourself, but you lose when you don’t even try.

Look them straight in the eye. Though it feels creepy to look in the eye of someone you don’t know, it’s a good way of showing that you are confident of what you are saying. Just like what happened during my past job interview. The HR girl kept on talking and we looked in to each others eye but I know that she somehow feel like she lost because everytime I talk and look in her eyes, she’d look somewhere as if she’s the interviewee.

Be yourself. I only realize lately that I am trying to be someone I am not. I mean, they are interviewing us to get to know us. Yes we are there to impress them but the thing is you can impress them by showing the real you.

But then again, it is always important to not be over confident. Just be yourself. Sell yourself honestly. But don’t show too much.

if i may just add…pampadagdag din ng confidence yung pag alaala ng mga past achievements in life. Like winning the poster making contest, being the class Valedictorian, Best in Conduct, Best in Handwriting, Best in Scrabble, Best in Religion etc. LOL

I think we are in the same boat right now. While I feel confident with my abilities, I have difficulty nailing it during interviews due to my lack of ability to expound well while making oral statements. I can’t seem to convey what I want to say the way that I want it to turn out.

I think the tips you have are imprtant, I just can’t relax during interviews. Hehehe.

anyway, you can relax by not worrying too much of what the result will be. gets? ang gulo ko. kakagising e. haha
